Our approach is to implement programs designed to improve the social, emotional, and cognitive development of youth.
Read, Feed, and Lead
SusCo works with local partners to bring over 150 orphans and other vulnerable children living in poor villages in Ghana together every Saturday for a creative learning experience. Youth participate in competency-based activities designed to improve their reading and math skills and also devote time to reading books donated by various sponsors. Monthly, youth also participate in leadership skill-building activities.
Camp in the Box
Camp-in-the-Box is a transformational, culturally infused camp experience designed to provide creative outlets for youth while also sowing encouragement, and joy into the hearts of children.
Working with local partners, each youth receives their own box filled with a pair of shoes and a host of other goodies to be treasured. Youth also participate in various activities led by adult facilitators in the areas of arts/culture, spiritual development, sports, life skills, and more.
Through the Eyes of Youth
This is a cultural engagement program designed to connect youth in Indianapolis and Ghana as they explore their different communities, and culture through images. As part of this innovative program, youth work in middle and high school cohorts in both countries, completing a curriculum that entails taking and sharing pictures of their respective worlds along with video sessions. In addition to learning about each other’s culture, youth also learn how to become servant leaders and culminate the program by completing a community service project. Youth in Indianapolis will travel to Ghana to connect with other youth, visit historic sites and complete a community service project.
Capacity Builders Without Borders
Capacity Builders Without Borders (CBWB) serves to connect practitioners with their respective counterparts in underserved communities in Africa. When leaders join the SusCo team on trips to Africa, special sessions are curated to help connect leaders with individuals in similar positions for a convening to explore opportunities and challenges working in the same field. These sessions also encourage ongoing networking as participants are committed via a communication application.
